What is Euroguidance?

Euroguidance is the working title for the Network of National Resource Centres for Vocational Guidance (NRCVG). Established by the European Commission, the NRCVG are a network of resource and information centres, promoting mobility throughout Europe. The NRCVG, which exist in all EU and EEA Member States and many Central and Eastern European Countries, act as a link between the guidance services of each country, exchanging information about work, study and training opportunities throughout Europe. Individual NRCVG represent the various Ministries of Education, Training, Labour and Youth across their respective countries.

What is the Euroguidance Network?

The Euroguidance Network is a complex association of centres across Europe linking together the careers guidance systems in Europe. Euroguidance promotes mobility, supports guidance teachers, counsellors and other paraprofessionals to enhance the understanding and opportunities available for European citizens. It therefore promotes the international dimension in careers guidance.

Another task is to promote mobility by helping guidance counsellors and individuals to better understand the opportunities available to citizens throughout Europe. The function of such centres therefore has to do with educational, training and vocational transnational mobility. Its aim is to facilitate the information which needs to be disseminated amongst the persons who are interested in taking any opportunities which will be available at the time being.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To facilitate mobility of people throughout Europe;
  • To support Vocational Guidance Counselors by promoting good practice and developments in European career guidance;
  • Provides information and offers individualized assistance about studying, training and job opportunities across Europe;
  • Supports research in vocational guidance;
  • Gathers and disseminates information regarding innovative practices in career guidance.

Who can benefit from Euroguidance?

  • Students or school-leavers who wish to undertake educational or vocational training or job opportunities;
  • Vocational/Guidance Teachers/Counsellors.

What is PLOTEUS?

The Portal on Learning Opportunities Throughout Europe , more widely known as PLOTEUS, was set upin order to respond to the conclusions of the Lisbon and Stockholm European Councils (March 2000 and March 2001), which invited the European Commission and Member States to create a Europe-wide service providing information on jobs and learning opportunities. The purpose of PLOTEUS, just like that of EURES, its counterpart, is to put into effect the right to freedom of movement for European citizens by providing the necessary information.

In its present form, PLOTEUS aims to facilitate navigation among existing information resources on learning opportunities. The work of identifying and classifying the information resources is carried out by the National Resources Centres for Vocational Guidance (Euroguidance) - a European network funded by the Leonardo da Vinci programme and by national authorities.

It should be emphasised that PLOTEUS is a project under construction. On the one hand, the current service for guiding users to existing information resources is being permanently expanded and updated. On the other hand, the Commission and the relevant national authorities are working together to define a common protocol that will allow the interconnection at European level of national and regional databases. This will provide citizens with unified, direct access to any such tools.

The project is managed by DG Education and Culture; its development was supported by the DG Enterprise IDA (Interchange of Data between Administrations) programme.
